Lenin once mused that “there are decades where nothing happens; and there are weeks where decades happen.” The first few weeks of 2021 have certainly felt that way. Yet with chaos, inevitably comes order. As the great working from home experiment continues, renewed hope about the future of work and the great promise of meaningful transformational change continues. The past few days – the first of 2021 – have reinforced both the fragility and great promise of the year to come. While news of a vaccine brought hope to many, the emergence of a new strain of COVID-19 sent many of us back into our homes. Yet, in the longer term, the vaccine brings an opportunity for more tangible notions to be realised: reunification with family, travelling again and of course, the great return to the office.
With the possibility of the great return in mind, though the world of work continues to significantly transforms beneath our feet, here are 5 trends we predict will grow in importance in 2021:
- Touchless spaces
- Bring your own technology
- Hybrid workplaces
- Third spaces and localised working
- Renewed focus on experience
Join me over the next five weeks where I will expand on each point and provide some tools and techniques to stay ahead of the ever-changing landscape. At UnWork, we’re passionate about the future of work and despite the unfortunately circumstances surrounding us, there has never been a better time to think about how we work in future. The opportunity for a different paradigm brings a renewed opportunity to share ideas and thoughts on the New World of Work; how we adjust, what we take forward, what we transform and ultimately, how and when we go back ensuring that what we create cater for the diversity of our ever-changing world.
So, I wish you reader, all the very best for 2021 – a year of unbridled opportunity and innovation.
